About Cairns Community Legal Centre

The Cairns Community Legal Centre is a non-profit, government-funded community organisation, providing accessible legal and social justice services to people in the community who are experiencing disadvantage. 

The Centre extends their service to a number of different areas, including guardianship, administration, domestic violence, peace and good behaviour matters, consumer law, debt, motor vehicle property damage, employment, discrimination, family law, child protection, and criminal and traffic matters.

This work is provided for a diverse range of clients including people with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, those experiencing domestic or family violence, financial difficulties and homelessness.

About the Opportunity

Working closely with the Centre's Director, your role will be to provide administration and executive support to the Centre's Director, including (but not limited to):

  • Responding to stakeholder, client, staff and volunteer enquiries;
  • Preparing and sending emails and other correspondence as required;
  • Preparing of draft statistical and other reports to funders and others;
  • Maintaining files and other records to ensure these are up to date;
  • Assisting with the maintenance of policies, procedures and manuals;
  • Assisting with accreditation and other compliance requirements;
  • Diary maintenance, arranging meetings (including Annual General Meeting), and travel requirements;
  • Updating internal spreadsheets, databases, registers, mailing lists and other documents;
  • Photocopying, filing, emailing, scheduling, and screening calls; and
  • Handling of confidential and sensitive documents to ensure utmost security.

You will also be required to work effectively with your colleagues to achieve required work outcomes.

You will also be involved in other activities aimed at the ongoing development of the Centre and services and which seek to meet its corporate goals.

About You

Suitable candidates should have the ability to provide high quality administrative functions and executive support.  Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills will also be important, as will the ability to effectively manage competing priorities and work under pressure.

The successful candidate will also be able to work with a strong spirit of service.  For example you will be able to work co-operatively, be adaptable, and agile in responding to emerging demands. You will demonstrate a positive attitude and enthusiastically accept new challenges as they arise; and demonstrate willingness to continually learn and develop both professionally and personally.
